Based on the novel Minsk. A Sun City of Dreams by Artur Klinau
Premiere – November 1st, 2015
The Sun City of Dreams is a concept by Artur Klinau consisted of the same name visual poem (photo series) and the novel Minsk. A Sun City of Dreams. It’s a story of a person, born in Soviet Minsk, who recalling the city of his childhood and youth tells us about one historical unsuccessful social experiment – the Soviet empire. The body of Minsk and its history are the main metaphor on this telling, a memory space, referring to which the hero tries to find and to remember himself in order to realize what it was and how he can imagine his life tomorrow. But it is not only a story of a person who was traumatized by the Soviet project. Minsk. A Sun City of Dreams tells about the search of identity on a city space, and it is difficult to find yourself in a ruined city or in a place without memory.
Working with this concept and novel, thinking about utopia phenomenon in general and also focusing on memory, identity, the time (past and future) subjects Tanya Arcimovich & Anton Sarokin make some kind of revision of Klinau’s concept and try to find in this story voices and images of today’s reality – both local and global.
