Program of Belarusian performance penAtra (C) tion-VIII
Belarus

The penAtra (C) tion aims to show the diversity of Belarusian performance and gives various performers an opportunity to show themselves.

Participants

Konstantin Muzhev
This performer has a scandalous reputation (first of all he is known for his habit to perform nude), but in fact his spectacular multimedia performances don’t aim to shock. Performance for him is just another side of his work as a sculptor, a new tool for studying interactions of form and colour. And it’s also a way to realize and to express his attitude towards different existential and social problems.

The Mechaners of Culture group
The project of the organizers of the Dakh festival Zmitser Yurkevich and Ales Rodin has already presented over hundred performances that took place not only in art centres and galleries, but also on the streets of European cities and even straight in Svisloch and Spree rivers. Recently, the group focuses on original interpretation of historical events and their massive irrational shows are haunted by ghosts from Belarusian past.

Exorcist Gesamtkunstwerk group (Evgeny Rogozin, Pavel Voinitsky, Ilya Sin)
The motto of the group is «A sculptor is a performer; a performer is a sculpture». Sometimes in their shows you can see a gypsum statue with a man inside and sometimes an aerodynamic installation. Existential experience and cultural concepts are the basis for their bright, loud and sometimes even hard shows.

Sergey Zhdanovich
Famous photographer that uses performance to step outside the two-dimensional limits and to make a direct contact with the audience. Based his shows on the images and ideas from the own pictures, he is looking for new movements and spacing.

Yuras Borisevich
An author of post-avant-garde theory of schizo-realism. He puts into life his own theory and creates performances based on mix of geography and mysticism, cosmology and physiology.

Alexander Zaitsev
He has a reputation of the most introverted and difficult to understand Belarusian performer. He started to perform together with the legendary Lyudmila Rusova and after creating a number of his own very individual shows Zaitsev learned to express his ideas using such a strong artistic images that they do not require any interpretation.

Olga Rogovaya
Performances that do not require any interpretation.

Program of Belarusian performance penAtra (C) tion-VIII

The penAtra (C) tion aims to show the diversity of Belarusian performance and gives various performers an opportunity to show themselves. Some of them are very introspective and others are very funny and entertaining; some artists are using just their own body and others need all existing artistic tools and techniques; some are trying to shock the audience and others want to have a friendly conversation with the viewers, but every performance is very individual and spontaneous.
The previous editions of the penAtra (C) tion project took place as a part of the Belarusian special project on the IV Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art (2011), Museum Night in Minsk (2012), at GogolFest (Kiev, 2013) and Dakh festivals (Minsk, 2013, 2015). In 2014, the project organized a two-day festival in the Minsk Centre for Contemporary Art.
